Just saw this thread.. hope my reply is not too late..
I have the YN-Mr14ex. I bought it as I couldnt justify spending £600+ on the canon MR-14ex. I had the same worries about buying it, but in the end, i decided to bite the bullet and buy it. I have not been disappointed!!!!
The Yongnou MR14ex is a Ring FLASH, not an LED flash. Ive tried other LED ring flash and these are underpowered.
This is a proper flash, almost identical to canons ring flash.
It has a good build quality, that belies its cheap price. Works perfectly with my Canon 60D.
Tend to use it on Manual mode only, as auto TTL causes problems for the types of photos that i take (forensic type photos)
Not that it is the flashs fault, but I just need consistent flash (ie.same power and exposure so I can compare different photos accurately). if use auto, then obviuosly the flash power can vary and I m trying to avoid this.
Works well with my Sigma 105mm F2.8 macro, canon 50mm F1.8
Recycle times are a few seconds, extremelt quick even with rechargable batteries.
not really had any problems with the flash,
it even came with a set of 4 adaptor rings to attach to your lens, 52mm, 58mm, 66 and 72mm. Comes in a nice case too and arrived quickly after I ordered it off ebay.
Would highly recommend it, save your cash and spend if on something else for your camera..
especially if you are on budget.
